HELPING CHILDREN WITH AUTISM
SPOT4KIDS Paediatric Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy would like to inform all families about The Helping Children with Autism program.
As of July 1 2008 the government has added new items to the Medicare Schedule for children with autism and their families. The initiative is called ‘Helping Children with Autism’ and is aimed at increasing access to, and providing financial support for, medical and allied health early intervention (Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Psychology) for children 0-13 years with autism as well as other less prevalent pervasive developmental disorders such as Rett's Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome or childhood disintegrative disorder.
Other components of the initiative include funding for teachers and school staff for professional development and training to help further support the needs of children with autism and their families. The program also includes funding for parents and carers of children with autism to access online workshops and support networks, as well as financial support and increased access to services for families living in rural and remote areas.
