Speech Pathology Checklist

Does your child have difficulty with any of the following:

  • poor pronunciation of words
  • Difficulty following instructions
  • Difficulty understanding the meanings of words
  • Difficulty explaining themselves
  • Poor vocabulary
  • Poor use of grammar
  • Difficulty remembering what was just said
  • Inappropriate interactions (e.g. talking too loud, not answering questions or not using eye contact)
  • Poor literacy skills
  • A stutter
  • Abnormal vocal quality (e.g. A “croaky” voice or talking like they have a blocked nose)

     

    If you answered yes to any of the above questions, your child may benefit from a Speech Pathology assessment. Please contact us if you are unsure, would like additional information or would like to arrange an assessment time.

    Checklist

  • Handwriting, reading or spelling
  • Pencil grasp
  • Tying shoelaces, managing buttons and zippers
  • Using cutlery
  • Tiring during school activity/homework
  • Maintaining attention
  • Difficulty initiating or completing tasks
  • Under or oversensitivity to textures
  • Poor balance
  • Poor ball skills
  • Coordination difficulties or “clumsiness”
  • Excessive jolting or jerky movements
  • Reluctance to participate in outdoor activities/sports
  • Difficulty interacting with other children

    The following outlines the age at which 75% of Australian children produce sounds correctly in single words (Kilminster and Laird, 1978). The child should say all sounds up to and including their age. If they are not producing one or more of these sounds, they would benefit from a Speech Pathology Assessment.
